Question
I cannot get my Admin to connect.
It shows an error message saying:
Error connecting to Web
service. Please check URL.

Answer
Open a web browser and go to:
http://www.icdltest.com/icdltest/dataaccess.asmx.
If you get to the web data access, this is a typical sign your proxy is blocking connection. To allow connection you are required to authenticate the user through your proxy.
To do this launch the set connection options tool and enter the specific details that your proxy requires.
Question
I’ve entered the details of my proxy but it still won’t connect.
Answer
In the set connections options tool there is a general tab.
Click on this and select the application from the drop down menu.
Final step is to change the HTTP version to 1.0 from 1.1.
Once done,
OK the changes and try to connect again.
Question
I can connect in the Admin but I cannot get the Exam client to connect.
The message says:
Error accessing server.

Answer
Open Client Management Tool from the Program menu ( found in the
folder 'Management Tools for ICDL Test).
This will open a window called 'Exam Shell Manager'.
Click on
'Tools' > 'Change Connection'.
The URL needs to be http://www.icdltest.com/icdltest,
if not, please change it. If this is correct copy to the field called eCitizen DB connection.
Question
When I launch the client,
the following error appears:
Customization autoupdate error. Details:
Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Activ-Training Limited\Brand\Customize.xml'
is denied

Answer
The software cannot connect to the AutoUpdate database, please check your connections settings and URL’s.
Question
The connection seems slow when trying to run an exam.
Answer
Check the available bandwidth at the time of trying.
The minimum required is 56Kbps per machine.
Depending on environment and network settings changing the HTTP version can increase speed.
Question
If PCs / laptops are configured
to be on a domain environment, then when a machine is taken away from
the domain, some of the tools like Auto
Update deployment tool do not work.
Answer
If you've installed on a domain and
take the computer off the domain,
certain features such as Auto Update
Deployment tool will not work as you are out of the environment it was installed onto. This is due to user
groups and permissions.
Question
When I try and test the connection
for Data Synchronization, I get the
following error message:

Answer
If you are connecting to the
internet via a proxy, please ensure
that you have your 'Set Connection
Options Tool' set up correctly, to
allow the synchronization to occur.
Question
How do I import a large numbers of
candidates who already have a
skill card number?
Answer
At point of live testing, you
will be provided with an import
template to allow you to import
candidates into your testing
system.
If you have mislaid this, or
wish to create your own, then you
will need to create
an import template. You can do
this by logging into the
System Administration then navigating
down to the Lab that you want to
import too. Click on 'Tools'
> 'Generate CSV import template'.
Once you have the template, open
it with Microsoft Excel. Fill in the mandatory
data and most importantly enter
the existing skill card numbers
for the candidates in the SCID
field. You do not have to enter
any details in the first column
Skill card number.
Question
I get an error when trying to import
candidates.
Some
candidates could not be imported.

Answer
The problem is potentially due to CSV formatting within Excel. To ensure that the template retains the correct formatting, you will need to format
the last column within the the template, SCID
(optional), so that it has a border
applied from row 2 of the the
column, to the last row of the last
candidate in the sheet. If, during
the original attempt to import, a
few candidates have been imported,
please
remove them from the CSV file.
Another reason for this the problem is because you may have entered the DoB value with slashes
between the date, month and year. This is unnecessary as the input mask will automatically enter these
for you, e.g please enter 05062007 rather than 05/06/2007. However, Excel removes the digit 0 if it is
the first digit within a value. Therefore, you will need to format the DoB column, before you enter any data. To do this, highlight the whole DoB
column, right-click, and a menu should appear. From this menu, please select 'Format Cells'. Within this new pop-up window, under the
'Number' tab, please select 'Text' from within the 'Category' listbox. Then click 'OK'.
Also, please remember that DoB value
is a mandatory field, and although the import will work if you do not enter this value at the import stage, you will be required to enter
it at a later date.
If you continue to experience
problems, please send the log file
and rejected CSV to your Licensee.
Question
I need to create another
Invigilator for a new staff but
the ‘Create’ function is
disabled.
Answer
By

Question
I run Office 2003 on an XP
operating system, and so I
require Office 2003 tests.
I only have access to Office
2000/XP tests (and assessments).
Answer
Office 2000 and XP tests (and
assessments) are provided as
standard to you at point of
setup. If you require Office
2003 tests or any other test
package then you will need to
contact Licensee.
Question
I have run out of skill cards
and tests on my system.
Answer
You will need to contact your
Licensee, and place an order for
the amount of required stock.
Question
When I go to run a test or
assessment I receive this
message:
No more Tests in queue! Good
bye.

Answer
Check your
remaining test or assessment
stock. If you have no stock
remaining, please contact your
Licensee. If you have stock
remaining, then you need to
check that you have queued up
test(s) (or assessments) for this
candidate. Make sure you launch
the correct client for either
Exams or Assessments. For exams
launch 'ICDL Exams' and for
assessments launch 'ICDL
Assessments'.
Question
I could not re-assign
Assessments to a candidate. The
candidate needs to be reassessed
but when I go to Test Allocation
it is already allocated. When I
login to the Assessment Client,
it says ‘No Test In Queue’.
Answer

A candidate can retake as many
assessments as they like as long
as the ATC has sufficient
Assessment license. To
re-queue, click on the
GREEN
checked box. The candidate is
re-queued when the check is
black.
Question
A candidate has used up all
his/her Test Licenses that came
with the registration pack but
hasn’t passed enough modules for
certification. What do I do so
he can continue testing?
Answer
You need to expand this
registration pack. To do so:
-
Right click on candidate >
Edit
-
In the
Enrolment tab, click once to select the candidate’s
Skill Card ID
-
Then click
Convert Skill Card ID…
-
A warning prompts you that your action is not reversible
and all available / remaining
Test License under the
registration pack will be
nullified.
Question
We purchased 10 Start Packs but
the Test License Remaining
counter does not show any
available Test License.
Answer

Registration packs comes with
Test Licenses that are affixed to
the candidate. The Test License
count available for each
registration package is shown
under the Available Attempts
frame. So, if a candidate
manages to complete, for
example, e-Citizen in one (1)
attempt, the remaining two (2)
are
not available for other
candidates to re-use.
Question
I have encountered a technical
problem that isn’t covered in
any of these Frequently Asked
Questions.
Answer
For 1st Level Technical Support
please contact your Licensee for
any assistance you require.
Question
Menu buttons are missing from menu bars
when I run exams and assessments.
Answer
We have identified
a problem when running exams / assessments on certain environments
running Windows 2000 OS. If you are online you will see an
automatic update to just the exam client when the application is
launched after 18.00 GMT 24/10/06. The client will download and
install the patch automatically. Offline customers will need
to download the exam client AUP package and install into local
server. This can be downloaded from the hot fix page.
Question
I get an error message when loading
the exam/assessment client which
says something about invalid date
and time.

Answer
You will need to check the regional
settings for the local machine.
You cannot have the date format
dd-mmm-yyyy set in the short date
field. Change to dd-mm-yyyy or
any other offered setting.
The issue is the mmm part of the
string and not the
separator, so you can have / or – value.
Below is an example of how they
should look.

Question
When loading a Module 7 exam, some
of the simulations are not working.
Answer
On the effected machines, make
sure the DPI is set to normal.
See below screenshot with
settings.

Question
How can I tell the difference
between an exam and an assessment?
Answer
There are three main differences
between the exam software and
assessment software.
The first difference can be seen on
the initial candidate login textbox.
The login box states
either 'Assessment' or 'Exam',
depending on what you have chosen to
sit.

The second difference can be seen on
the Test Queue list.

The third
difference can be seen on the
Instructions,
which has the title in a large font
and is in bold.
